As Niseko has continued to grow and develop into a year round destination so to has the level of the activities available for visitors to the area. Gone are the days when you could stand in the main street of Hirafu during summer and see nothing but itadori plants, over grown lawns and the detritus left over from the spring melt gazed upon by a single ratty rafting guide smoking a cigarette. These days when you look around town you're greeted by a far different scene.

Like mountain town's world wide Niseko comes to life in summer and the activities vary from water based sports of rafting, SUP and surfing to land based activities such as mountain biking and road cycling. Add to that the world famous quality of the food and summer festivals in Hokkaido and it's not really a stretch to say the summer season has even more to offer than winter.

One of the summer activities gaining extra strong momentum is the Mountain Bike scene. Championed by Niseko's number 1 ski-hire specialists Rhythm and people like Warwick "Waza" Walsh the MTB scene is firing in Niseko. There are a number of family friendly trails, lots of options for the more advanced riders and with the Rhythm store undergoing a full makeover at the start of summer into a fully equipped, staffed and stocked bike and outdoor store the scene continues to grow.

Another of the changes this improvement in trails and equipment suppliers has brought about is the attention of international riders. Red Bull are putting on an international pump track event this season and people like Manuel Gruber (Austrian World Cup Rider) are starting to visit.
